Gourmand

Gourmand notes have been a love child of modern perfumers and synthetic notes, and have entered the market in the early 1990s with the perfume Angel, by Thierry Mugler. This outstanding gourmand perfume has scents of patchouli, vanilla, caramel, and chocolate and is still made to this day. Spicy and amber notes are relatives to the gourmand ones and are often found together in perfumes. Some of the staple gourmand notes are milk, caramel, praline, toffee, coffee, and bonbons and are mostly synthetically made – most people have heard of vanillin or even furaneol (strawberry smell). These scents were a hit in the perfume circles because of the nostalgic feeling of the days when you, as a child, would visit the pastry shop with your grandparents. At the same time, these notes are new in perfumery, so they are also innovative and a testament to the scientific advances of the industry.
