Chloé is a women’s luxury ready-to-wear label based in Paris. The brand’s signature style embodies the carefree attitude of the modern Chloé woman – featuring floaty silhouettes and soft, romantic colourways. A number of fashion’s powerhouses have worked for the brand including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo. Gaby Aghion co-founded the label in 1952 with Jacques Lenoir, naming it after her friend Chloé who she felt personified the essence of the brand. Chloé was Aghion’s answer to the demand for a label that combined the high quality of haute couture with the accessibility of ready-to-wear during a time when the luxury fashion houses only offered haute couture. Café de Flore in Paris played host to the showing of the first Chloé collection in 1956. In 1966, Aghion enlisted the help of Karl Lagerfeld as Creative Director – his vision to combine airy blouses and ethereal skirts has since become the label’s signature silhouette. Despite the brand’s instant success the first boutique did not open until 1971. The first Chloé fragrance is launched in 1975. The floral, feminine scent becomes one of the most popular scents of its time. Lagerfeld resigned in 1983 and Aghion retired two years later. Stella McCartney took the helm in 1997 and revived the brand’s success before passing on the reigns to her assistant Phoebe Philo in 2001. Following her appointment in 2011, Clare Waight Keller is the current Creative Director.
